PRCA Statements & Positions

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is a diverse body of believers, representing more than 80 churches in the Tucson area. Below you will find our statements and positions, which are based in Biblical truth, with the purpose of unifying our families, teachers and staff.

What Makes PRCA Unique?

It's our community!

We consider it a privilege that parents entrust us with their children, and we honor and respect the various backgrounds represented by our student body. While all of our students have different gifts and future plans, it is our goal for each student to graduate with the training and skills to engage the world with the truth of the Gospel. PRCA's Portrait of a Graduate defines the five key character traits that we have woven throughout our curriculum to prepare graduates to do the "good works which God had prepared beforehand." We desire our students to be Servant Leaders, Courageous Christians, Truth Seekers, Virtuous Stewards and Justice Keepers.

God has brought us caring teachers who are invested in the lives of their students. Some have many years of experience and others are beginning their time at PRCA. All teachers complete a three-year leadership training program designed to guide and strengthen each new educator and receive intentional support provided through a mentoring program.

The community that surrounds our school, including parents, alumni, grandparents, coaches and donors, is a crucial part of fulfilling our mission and in the success of our students and graduates. Those who invest in PRCA have the opportunity to encourage young people to be rooted in their faith in Christ and equip them to face challenges now and in the future.

What Is A Classical Education?

Classical education is a long tradition that emphasizes the seeking after truth, goodness, and beauty through a study of the seven liberal arts and the Great Books, a canon of literature known for its excellence in uncovering the human spirit. By liberal arts, we mean the trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) which sets the student free to study other arts/sciences, as well as the quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music) whose content knowledge frees the mind to apprehend higher truths about reality. The focus here is on teaching students to know – know truth, being, wisdom, goodness, virtue – the highest causes, rather than equipping them with purely practical skills to do well at a given job.

What Makes An Education Christian?

A Christian school is set apart from other schools. At PRCA, we seek to teach our students about the world God created and how He can be found in every area of our learning. In all subjects, from Fine Arts to Mathematics, God, the Creator of all things, is also at the center of all things. Integrating a Biblical worldview into every area of study teaches our students that God is not limited to one area; knowing and understanding His Word is the only way to become more like Him, ready and equipped for engaging the world beyond high school.

What Does It Mean To Be Covenantal?

For PRCA, a covenantal relationship means that the school and the home partner, together and in tandem, to raise the child “in the way he should go.” However, it is much more than just a partnership. As Christians, we are joined to one another through Christ and as such, we are not our own, and our relationship with one another is eternal. Bonhoeffer says in his book Life Together, “We have been chosen and accepted with the whole Church in Jesus Christ, thus we also belong to Him in eternity with one another.”

A true covenantal relationship means just as Christ has committed Himself to us, we commit ourselves to Him and to one another. In the case of our school, we commit ourselves to assist believing parents to bring up their children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Parents commit themselves to support and encourage the school in its efforts, and together we commit ourselves and our children/students to loving and serving Jesus Christ. This task often requires grace, mercy, and forgiveness, and while it can be awkward and messy, the relationship is an expression of the beautiful relationship between God and His people.
The mission of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is to teach our students to become like Christ through a classical, Christian education within a covenantal community.
